In honor of Juneteenth and jazz’s enduring legacy as a vehicle for protest and social change, we’re reissuing a powerful playlist curated by pianist, scholar, and MacArthur “genius” fellow Vijay Iyer. First released during Iyer’s four-night residency at SFJAZZ in 2018, the collection spans generations and styles, bringing together iconic voices like Nina Simone and Bob Marley alongside contemporary artists such as Kendrick Lamar and Erykah Badu. Together, these tracks reflect a rich and ongoing tradition of resistance through music.
