The most prominent artist blurring lines between acoustic jazz, hip-hop, and contemporary R&B, GRAMMY-winning pianist and composer Robert Glasper returned in May 2018 with music from Everything’s Beautiful, his project devoted to re-conceptualized versions of Miles Davis compositions originating from his score to director and actor Don Cheadle’s 2015 Davis tribute film Miles Ahead. Like Davis, Glasper has been a driving force keeping the music moving forward, becoming a crossover star with his electro-acoustic Experiment band following the game-changing 2012 release Black Radio, which won that year’s GRAMMY for Best R&B Album.
The Houston native and veteran of work with Mos Def, Erykah Badu, Christian McBride, and Terence Blanchard is joined for this show by a telepathic band including guitarist Michael Severson, bassist Burniss Travis, drummer Justin Tyson, and R&B star Bilal on vocals.
