SFJAZZ Laureates
Commissions from SFJAZZ Laureates, past and present, grace the walls of the SFJAZZ Center building. The SFJAZZ Photographer Laureate chair was created to further the call and response between photography and jazz, celebrating their mutual search for understanding of self and the musicality of life. The SFJAZZ Poet Laureate chair was created to celebrate the connection between poetry, jazz and spoken word, and to inspire young poets and musicians to further their craft and contribute to the global conversation of art.
Racial Equity Action and Change
As presenters of an art form rooted in the Black American experience, SFJAZZ has a unique responsibility and acknowledges that systemic racism and bias has impacted Black, Indigenous, and people of color throughout our region, the larger jazz ecosystem, and within our own organization.
